This beautiful compact, spiral coprolite looks like a pink rose. I was likely covered shortly after deposition. When fish produce fecal matter of this type, it is usually encased in a mucus membrane. As it sits in water, the membrane dissolves, and the spiral pellet begins to open, like a blossom.
