Carnivore Coprolite with Multiple Size Feeding Traces

This coprolite contains a number of interesting features. These include longitudinal striations and muscle marks, possible feeding traces, and a mysterious impression likely left when it fell to the sea floor.

After removing some of the sandstone/limestone matrix filling the nicks and crannies, it looks like the large grooves and holes that first appeared to be intestinal folds and clam borings might just be tooth marks. For this reason, this intriguing specimen was donated to the Calvert Marine Museum for further study. I will post updates, so stay tuned!
